As 16 and 17 year olds enter the electorate for the first time, Further Education Colleges need resources and support to ensure their students are fully prepared for democratic life.
The Politics Project, in collaboration with the Electoral Commission, the Association of Colleges, and the National Association of Managers of Student Services launched a programme during the 2025-2026 academic year aimed at increasing the civic readiness of FE College students.
The programme includes:
- Resources to support students as they register to vote, prepare them for future elections, and consider the role that young people can and should play in politics at all levels.
- Training for staff to deliver democratic education programmes.
- Training and support for communications staff to support student engagement in elections.
- Support to develop College-wide policies on impartiality and engaging with candidates.
Participating colleges will receive resources to implement democratic education programming with their students, train staff, and oversee the teaching and learning strategy across the entire college.
We are now accepting expressions of interests from colleges looking to take part in the 2026-2027 academic year. If you are interested in your college participating please complete this form. To take part in this programme you will need sign off from senior management at the College.
