An Introduction to Democracy

This scheme of work consists of four packs of resources which have been designed to introduce students to the concept of democracy.

Exploring Elections

Exploring Elections supports young people aged 16+ to engage in the upcoming elections in 2024 through free in-person workshops and assemblies, providing guidance about what elections are for and advice on how to register to vote.

Local Elections

This scheme of work provides information on local government, local elections, and why they matter. This scheme of work also include worksheets to encourage young people to think about local issues that are important to them.

London Voter Registration Week: Political Literacy Resources

This a schemes of work part of the 'Our Generation. Our Vote' project. This first scheme of work provides a basic introduction to who runs the UK and how these people are elected and is aimed at learners aged 7-11.

These sessions designed for assemblies will contribute to students’ understanding of democracy by exploring the processes involved in a UK Parliamentary general election.

Understanding Politics

The Understanding Politics programme includes 4, 1 hour lessons on Welsh Democracy for students in secondary school.

This scheme of work consists of a 30 to 60 minute lesson for 7 to 11 year olds and a 15 minute tutor time resource for 11 to 16 year olds that presents the debate on whether the voting age should be set at 16.

This scheme of work contains a table summarising the key points of voting systems used within the UK and in Europe, as well as ideas about how to encourage students to analyse their purpose, benefits and limitations.

Welcome to Your Vote | Assemblies

These assemblies, tailored to the four countries of the UK, introduce young people to democracy, politics and elections. They can also be used in form time.
