Understanding UK Parliament and government

This scheme of work supports learners to understand how the UK Parliament and national government work, with a focus on the House of Commons, MPs, and the House of Lords. By the end of the scheme of work, learners should have a clear idea of the roles and responsibilities of MPs and members of the House of Lords, how the two Houses contribute to the work of Parliament, and how national government responds to issues affecting the country.

In completing the scheme of work, students will learn about the work of the House of Commons and House of Lords before applying their knowledge to a national issue of their choice. They will brainstorm possible policy solutions and develop an explanation of their preferred response.
