How is the UK governed?

This six-lesson Year 9 scheme of work develops students’ political literacy by examining how power and government operate across the UK.
Learners explore the differences between local, regional and national governance and deepen their understanding of institutions including Parliament, Government and the judiciary. They consider how laws are made and how different parts of the political system interact, before comparing aspects of the UK and US political systems.
The scheme develops learners’ understanding of how the UK is governed and the roles different institutions play in democratic life.
