My political future toolkit

The 'My political future toolkit' supports young women to think about their political goals and plan how to achieve them. It aims to combat deficiencies in political literacy among young women and empower them to get started in politics, whether through becoming an activist, creating an issue-based campaign, or becoming a politician.

After completing the toolkit, young women should have a stronger understanding of their political values, priorities, and goals. They will have also developed an understanding of the barriers to the realisation of these goals and where they can target efforts to overcome them. Finally, they will have created plans of action in pursuit of their goals and made commitments to begin pursuing some of those actions.

Participants will complete three workbooks:

1. My Why: encourages young women to explore why they might want to get involved in politics and democracy.
2. My Goal: supports young women to learn about which level of UK government is responsible for the different kinds of changes they might like to make
3. My Way Forward: encourages young women to reflect on their political goals and begin planning how they might take action to advance them

The workbooks are designed to be interactive and self-led, but can be adapted for classroom use. The toolkit was produced by Elect Her in collaboration with Sex Ed Matters and researchers at Oxford Brookes University.
