Host a Hustings Cymru

Host a Hustings Cymru is a free programme for schools and youth organisations in Wales, designed to support practitioners in delivering meaningful democratic engagement opportunities ahead of Welsh elections. Through a structured three-lesson scheme of work, high-quality teaching resources and practical guidance, the programme helps schools and youth organisations prepare young people to take part in a youth hustings with election candidates. Resources are flexible to suit a range of educational settings and are designed to build practitioners' confidence in delivering political literacy and democratic participation activities.

The programme aims to make it easier for practitioners to deliver engaging, impartial and curriculum-relevant learning about democracy in Wales. It provides the resources and guidance needed to explore how decisions are made at different levels of government, how elections work and the role of elected representatives. Alongside developing learners' understanding of democracy, the programme supports practitioners to facilitate respectful discussion, encourage critical thinking and create opportunities for young people to engage confidently with political issues that affect their communities.

Participating schools and youth organisations receive a complete three-lesson scheme of work, accompanying classroom resources and guidance from The Politics Project on planning and delivering a successful youth hustings. Young people apply their learning by preparing questions, engaging with election candidates and taking part in a real democratic event, while practitioners are supported throughout the process with resources and advice to help them organise and deliver the programme effectively.

Host a Hustings Cymru is funded by the Welsh Government and delivered by The Politics Project, enabling schools and youth organisations across Wales to provide high-quality, impartial democratic engagement opportunities.
