Civic and democratic participation programme

The Civic and Democratic Participation Programme is a non-party political, year-round programme run by the Greater London Authority (GLA), supporting all Londoners, especially under-registered and under-represented Londoners, to access their civic and democratic rights.

The programme aims to increase civic and democratic participation across London, defined as the ability to take part in civic life (such as starting or signing petitions, peaceful and legal protest, community organising, and volunteering) and democratic processes (such as standing for elected office, registering to vote and voting, and taking part in deliberative and participatory democracy, like citizens' assemblies). It places particular focus on reaching communities who are currently under-registered or under-represented, helping to close the gap in civic and democratic engagement across the capital.

Information materials and activities are co-designed with under-represented communities, and co-delivered both online and offline with the support of a broad, pan-London coalition of partners and supporters. Alongside this, grantees of the GLA's Democratic Participation grants programme deliver complementary activity within trusted community settings.

Led and funded by the GLA, in coordination with the Electoral Commission and local authorities, and delivered by Shout Out UK (SOUK) alongside a wide network of community partners.
