Why is a free press essential to democracy?

This presentation supports delivery of a lesson exploring why a free press is essential to democracy. It includes teacher guidance, discussion prompts, interactive activities, a card sort, learning checks and opportunities for learners to examine different types of news media, freedom of expression, impartiality, fact-checking, and the benefits and risks of the internet and social media.
