These resources can be used with post-16 ESOL learners from A1 to B1 (Entry 1 to Entry 3) level.

There are four presentations, which can be used flexibly according to learners’ levels of English and interest. Each presentation has accompanying learning materials.

The themes of the four presentations are:

  • Part 1: Government and Parties
  • Part 2: Councils and Representatives
  • Part 3: Register and Vote
  • Part 4: Community Action

Part 1: Government and Parties

These materials on democratic engagement are designed for use with post-16 ESOL learners in Wales.

They can be used with students from A1 to B1 (Entry 1 to Entry 3) level, although they may need considerable scaffolding at the lower end of the range. It may be helpful for learners to use other languages and their phones for translation.

There are four presentations, which can be used flexibly according to learners’ levels of English and interest. It is not necessary to deliver the presentations from start to finish, or retain deep control over the session; rather, it is recommended that facilitators draw attention to images and key words, asking questions and allowing discussions to develop naturally between learners. Each presentation has accompanying learning materials.
